Arena of Verona

The Arena of Verona, the most famous roman amphitheater in Italy, after the Colosseum, is the symbol of the Venetian city, with the figures of Romeo and Juliet, and is located on the famous Piazza Bra, near the main monuments.

The extraordinary complex was used for gladiatorial and hunting shows and now, thanks to his perfect acoustics, hosts concerts and performances of opera.

The construction technique is standardized, equal throughout the building, and the materials used are Red Ammonitic for the exterior facade and a mixture of bricks and stones for internal walls.

Generally, the Arena has always been without ornament, though in the past there were certainly statues, some of them, discovered during excavations, are preserved in the archaeological museum at the Roman Theater in Verona.

Starting from June the amphitheater hosts the Opera season and the Arena of Verona becomes a popular destination for tourists and enthusiasts, from all over the world.

The shows that led to the success of this Opera Festival are Aida, Carmen, Tosca and Turandot.

The Hotel Scalzi is 500 meters from the Arena of Verona.
